To recognize the hallmarks of the age and to encourage progress—that is the stated aim of the Vienna-based publishing house Jugend & Volk. Immediately after its foundation in the year 1921, this firm set itself the goal of supporting the social-democratic reform of Viennese schools with modern textbooks. It met with great success: its pedagogical publications, its textbooks for the primary and intermediate school years, and its children’s and youth literature were very popular. Currently the publishing house, which is one of the significant Austrian educational publishers, offers a broad range of educational media products for all school types, including: primary schools and schools catering for children with learning difficulties, for the intermediate and final years of Austrian grammar schools, for polytechnic institutions and for all vocational training centres. Also included in its range are materials for the first year of school, materials that encourage open-ended learning, pedagogical works and supplementary materials for current textbooks.
Another area of focus is textbooks for vocational courses in metalwork, electrical engineering, plumbing, timber processing, retail, and for polytechnic institutions.
